Workshop and presentation by Seleshe Damessae, 1997 Lotus World Music Festival performer. Seleshe Damessae discusses the relationship between East African music and people's lives, including the participation of the audience in musical performance, the significance of movement and rhythm, and the incorporation of stories in songs. He demonstrates how to play the krar (bowl lyre), discussing its techniques, styles, aesthetics, and tuning system. Samessae also describes the African drum and demonstrates rhythms by teaching the audience clapping patterns.
